Beautiful Thanksgiving

The weather has been much as our typical fall - in November - cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon, chilly in the evening!

Here's my framed Anniversaries of the Heart by Blackbird Designs. It was framed by Stitch and Frame Shop.  I think it is beautiful, and I love it.  Started in 2011, and finished stitching in September 2016.

Stitching in the Heat

Here we are, coming up to the end of July.  We celebrated my mom's birthday last weekend with dinner at a local Chinese food buffet.  She really seemed to enjoy it.

Last year I said my focus this year would be completing Blackbird Designs, Anniversaries of the Heart.  It hasn't worked out that way, but at least one has been done, and another is on the q-snaps.  For anyone who isn't familiar, this was a 12-part series started in 2010 that was designed to recognize and honor various family members.  I chose to stitch each of them on one piece of 32ct Autumn Fields linen. I believe 30ct was recommended, but if  I were starting it now, it would be on 40ct...

I received this little angel - Christmas variety - from Sara this week.  Isn't she adorable - just stepped out of the choir.  Hop over to Sara's Facebook page, Triple S Crafts to see more of her cute designs.  She is such a talented crochet artist.

Hope you're having a great summer, getting a bit of rain once in a while, and staying cool.

Is it summer?

Hey, Friends!
Is it feeling like summertime at your house?  Humid evenings with heat lightening, or quick pouring rains and storms? Muggy, steamy, mornings?  I think summer is here a little early this year - but that's really no surprise, is it?
This week I finished Pink Hill Manor. It was stitched in honor of my aunt who passed in January from ovarian cancer.  I made a couple of switches in colors to make it appear even more pink toned, and since my Old Purple Paint was ‘missing’ at the time, there was a custom Blackberry Pie that stood in for it.  The initials of her deceased husband and her two children are there, as well.  I love how it turned out, and think she would love it, too.
As you see, my Anniversaries of the Heart project is a long way from completion.  There have been a couple of beautiful finishes recently that are very inspiring to me Siobhan and Katrina beautiful pieces of work!  Have a look and you may be enabled as well!
Next on my clipboard is the Mystery Sampler, Birds of a Feather, from With Thy Needle & Thread.  I made the choice to stitch it on 34 ct Cafe Aulait with the charted fibers.  I've only stitched one side of the border, so there's not much to show yet.

I am always on the lookout for stash and a couple of weeks ago I found With Needle & Thread.  It pays to keep your eyes open
It just makes me wonder why Alma and Barb don’t reprint some of their early designs into booklet form?  There are many of us who were not stitching then, and would love to be able to stitch some of the older designs.
A new Yahoo group was started last week called Pals Stitching at the Beach It is specifically for the PALS Fall Fling retreat at Myrtle Beach in October and any stitchers who plan to or are considering going.  I went last year for the first time see the post here , and before I left had already said I’d be going again this year.  It was so great to meet some on-line friends, and some brand new friends, too!  I was second on the sign-up sheet, have made reservations, and am already excited to go again!  It is at the SpringMaid Resort, where we had a huge assembly room with tables open from early to midnight thirty you can stitch in the cool and still see the ocean, chat with friends, or go and do other beach-y type things.  There are grab bags, ornament swaps, and some fun games.  Amy From Down Sunshine Lane is the sponsor of the event, and she does a great job!  And speaking of Amy, there is a get together planned for next Saturday, June 4, in Manning at the French Hens.  A group of PALS gather to stitch, sip beverages, eat and be merry for a few hours, typically 10-4.  It is a fun gathering, and I PLAN to be on time this time, y’all, and look forward to seeing everyone!
A quick PS:  Do you know Mary Corbet?  She is an extraordinary stitcher-teacher, with a delightful daily newsletter posting.  Anyway -- I know there have been a lot of links in this week's posting, but to all my stitching-quilter friends, you must see Friday's posting.  You MUST!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a word or two!  It's so nice to hear your comments and thoughts - almost like having a little chat.

March On

Hey, Friends!
Last weekend was beautiful, warm springtime this one is rainy, early spring.  Although it is cool, there are blooms and pollen everywhere, but there is supposed to be some rain to help wash that away…haven’t seen it yet.
Next weekend Amy of Down Sunshine Lane is hosting a stitching get together in Manning at the French Hens restaurant.  Hop over to read about it on Amy’s blog.  I’ve been a couple of times and fun is had by all!
The finished BBD AotH, A Wish for You, is in honor of my dad, whose birthday is the end of March.  As I was taking the photo I realized that the date really needs to be changed Duh, what was I thinking? Not.
While waiting for some threads on order, I started a design called Bluebirds and Flowers from a Leisure Arts booklet called Old Samplers.  As you can see, a little change was in order.  I received this Victorian Motto in Autumn at PALS last year, and thought it would work up nicely in this design.
You know I’m not one who typically starts more than one project at a time, but when those fibers came in, I just HAD to start on BBD, Breath of Spring.  Of course I’m loving it.
The fourth in the series of Specialty Stitches is the Square Eyelet.  My stitches are far from perfect, but it is fun to try new things!
Oh, and like I really need to start a new craft, I’ve been taken by the Punch Needle!  Want to join me?  Take a look at this darling design over at Nan’s Needlework Notions.  She also has some of these for sale if you get bitten, too!

* Reminder:   TuSAL is in the side bar this year à
Well, it’s time for me to go blogging to see what you’ve all been up to!  Thanks for stopping in, and you know I love to hear what you’re thinking today!

Happy Stitching!

Hey, Friends!
The question was asked on Ranae’s blog the other day about when to toss a needle with lots of various responses.
This got me to thinking… why don’t I throw away needles?  Well, as I say over and again my very favorite needles in the world that I’ve tried so far are Bohin needles.  They flow through linen like silk.  Sometimes there will be a little bend in my needles  and it took me the longest to figure out why, but because 99% of the time I use Q-snaps to hold my linen and still want to use the sewing method of stitching.  But that little bend doesn’t make me throw them out they’re just getting broken in by then!
And then there’s the fact that I usually have one needed threaded for each color in use on a project.  Yep, I’m usually a ‘one project at a time’ stitcher, and I thread a different needle for each color.   I have one of those gadgets especially made for this, but what works best for me is fun foam pinned onto a painter’s canvas.  I print a copy of the symbol and name of the color fibers a project calls for, then pin this down on the ‘pallet’ and it’s ready to go.  The reason for the painter’s canvas is to give space for the needle without making marks in the table top I started using this before my side table was topped with glass.  See all the accoutrements that I need for stitching?  Yours looks similar, I'd bet!
Surprisingly, as I continued along my blogging path, I ran across this article about a Japanese tradition “to thank their worn out needles and pins for good service.”
I’ve started the fourth BBD Anniversaries of the Heart series, A Wish for You.  Since this is the March piece, and it mentions health and has a rabbit, it will be dedicated to my Dad.  Here’s a photo of the three completed pieces to date.  I was sort of hesitant to start this, to me, BAP, but so far I’ve enjoyed each and every stitch!

The third in the series of Specialty Stitches was the French Knot.  I chose to do these in a thread from Sassa Lynne labeled as Perle-Fine, named Damask.
Feeling a bit of pull on the heart strings, I stitched Be Mine from the Love is in the Air Blackbird Designs booklet.  It’s on 34 count creamy white linen with a couple of color subs for those I didn’t have on hand CC Jakey Brown for GA Clover and CC-Weeping Willow for GA Avacado.
Time to go blog surfing and see what you’ve all been stitching!  Thanks for dropping in, and leaving your comments and thoughts!  See ya’ soon!

Ground Hog and TuSAL?

Hey, Friends!
I’ve been working with a bit of stitching thrown in this week!  Oh, and I went to my first Zumba class on Tuesday night.  I was worried that they’d be way ahead of me, but it wasn’t as ‘structured’ as it might have been.  I was pooped when it was over, but that was the intent to get this ole body moving a little.  Looking forward to next time, but won’t wear fleece again!
They say the Ground Hog predicts an early spring is there anyone out there who isn’t ready for THAT?  I don’t think so!!
There’s a Pre-Superbowl sale at my LNS The Stitch and Frame Shop today, and I need to run by the Office Depot to pick up some more tape for the label maker, so… I’d just as well go by the shop, too!  Don’t you think?  Of course!!  I’ve got a few things on my list, and I want some of that Butter Cream linen I’ve seen you all stitching such lovely things on.
This week I finished the BBD Valentine Rose, which I modified to honor my maternal Grandmother, for whom I was named, Rhoda Bell who was born in 1902.  Victorian Sampler’s Button Up Birdies November Chickadee was a quick and fun stitch!  I also did part 2 of the Specialty Stitchers’ Tree of Stitches - the Smyrna stitch that I chose to do in orange.

Last night I wasn’t ready to start a new project, so I went in there and gathered up all that DMC that was hither and yon…  Decided while I was at it, I may as well put some labels on the drawers that I could actually read.  One cabinet is reorganized half way with the new labels ran out of tape.  I’ll get the other one done this afternoon while doing laundry.
So, I’d better get up and out the door or it won’t get done.  DS is coming this evening and we’re going to Nan and Pop’s house for BBQ ribs.  Yummmmm….Thanks for coming by today.  I look forward to hearing your Needler’s Point and checking in to see what you’ve been up to lately!
