Thrifts and such

Wishing you a pleasant Memorial Day weekend as we honor of our fallen Veterans on Monday.
I have to work on Monday, but decided to take off today, just because.  I’ve stitched a very little this week and haven’t really accomplished (finished) much, BUT I did find that chart I ‘just knew’ I’d bought!  It was tucked away under some stack or other that I finally turned over.  Shame is on me!  Was I vague enough describing it?  It’s Little House Needleworks, Needle and Thread.
Why didn’t I do more stitching this week?  If you know me at all, you know I’m a TV addict, and many of my favorites have been winding down for the season.  I can usually stitch and watch, but some of these just demand my undivided attention.  Like Dancing with the Stars.  Come on, who didn’t know Nicole and Derek were going to win?  It really wasn’t fair, since she was a dancer to begin with (and Evan a skater, too), but if they let them compete, they deserve the win!  I was rooting for Erin and Maks, but they only got third place!  Then there was American Idol.  YES, I did watch it even though I wasn’t totally impressed with the lot to begin with.  Part of my enjoyment of this show is watching the progression, or as they say, the journey, of the contestants.  Who would have thought that shy little paint shop guy would end up winning?  But he did.  And as ugly and cruel as Simon could be, I usually agreed with his opinions… and I was touched by his humbleness in the end.
Not to worry, the new (and I love it) summer season is revving up to begin.  So You Think You Can Dance started last night, and the TNT (We know Drama) shows will begin in June as will the Cooking shows…  I just love ‘em.
Don’t you just love checking out Kim's Thrifty Thursday on the Threadheads Unite blog?  And are you like me … don’t usually find such neat stuff when YOU get to the Thrift Shop?  Well, recently I’ve found a few things that I like, so see what you think.  Like this pretty, dark wooden tray with the fruit pictured inside.  My thought was to use it for a stitching tray, perhaps, but it’s pretty the way it is until I get around to it.  I think it was $2.  Then yesterday I picked up this old wooden corkscrew for .99.
And how about these cutie pie cups?  There’s only one here, but there were five of them @ .10 a piece.
This looks like a ‘60s version of the Singer 288 manual – but the publication date is 1978.  No, I don’t have one, but I couldn’t just leave this there!  And the great sheet music – who can find some when you want it?  These were no more than .25 each.  And I also found some pretty little saucers that I won’t bore you with now, but you May get to see them in photos later…
It’s time to get ready to take Pixie for grooming.  Who knows what I’ll get into while she’s there…Thank you for stopping by, and hope to see you again, really soon!!

What a week…

I haven’t taken time to read messages or even blog scan, much.  Doesn’t seem so overwhelming if I keep up and do a bit a day, but now there are over 500 unread messages from one of my yahoo groups this week, and several hundred in others.  That’s where I found many of your blogs that I love to keep up with, and where many of you found me, but unless I have time at work to read messages, I’m sorry to say they get behind.  I don’t mean to be so quiet, but guess I’m falling into the lurker category.  I will take time to catch up with blogs, but that may be on the slower side too.
This was the third Tuesday week, which means Stitch Night at my LNS, The Stitch and Frame Shop.  I do love my LNS, and the ladies who run it.  Carol, one of the sweethearts who works there, was finishing up her scissor bed.  It was precious, and I said, that may just be next in my list of to-do’s.  So when I got home I started looking for it, just SURE it was in my stash.  I remember not buying the ‘bed’ thinking I could make one, but “did” get the chart.  So I looked with no luck.  Then I said, I think it was about the time I got Quaker Diamonds… which I did find, but the other wasn’t there.  So again I looked, in the stack of various stages of finish; no… and looked, in the bag of linens; no… and looked, in and through the works in progress; no… Guess I decided not to get it at all.

I did finish my He’s a Flake ornament stitching, and started another little project.  This is a tiny preview…
Remember last week there was a contest from Vintage Workshop?  If you posted the link on your blog, they offered to send a sample of indigo junction cards.  I did, they did, and aren’t they just precious?

Well, that’ about it for me this week.  Hope you’re all having a fun-tastic weekend!  Thank you for stopping by, and hope to see you again, really soon!!

Redwood in SC

Edited to add giveaway link

The Vintage Workshop Window is having a neat giveaway of Fresh from the Garden giftsets.  Take a look and enter to win!

Not a lot going on this week, but wanted to share what a lovely Mother’s Day weekend we had!  On Saturday, DS and I went to see Iron Man II ~ and I really enjoyed it, no matter the critics.  Then we went to Nikota to sit on the floor for Japanese.  He got a redwood tree for shading the back yard and planted it for me.  It is young, and needs lots of water (summer planting??) but one day the deck will be shaded for real afternoon enjoyment!  On Sunday, we took steak and fixin’s to Nan and Pop’s to grill out.  She had to work, so we had everything almost finished when she got home.  I got her a purse, and she seemed to like it…
Wish we had smell-a-blog so you could get a whiff of these wonderful jasmine climbing up the banister of my front porch.  They do smell divine!!
I was able to complete and submit at work this week the form declaring that I have not smoked for six months!!  This will be another $25 savings on insurance premiums per month.  Believe me, there are days when I think, if I still smoked I’d go out and have one!  When I turned in the form, the lady in Human Resources said, “It’s been ten years since I quit, and there are days when I feel like I could eat one!”  I know exactly what she meant.  I have quit before and started back after years.  I know people who can have one with a drink, and not touch them any other time.  I’m not one of those.  We were told at our end-of-year meeting last week that beginning in September, the campus policy on smoking will be “in your vehicle, only.”  They didn’t want to try to put in place a total ban for the sake of adults who do smoke, but also don’t want to infringe on the rights of those who don’t smoke, so that’s what they came up with.  Another reason to be SO glad I’ve quit.
This is TuSAL week, and as you can see the 2010 ornie is getting more full by the month.  If you like to learn more or join in the useless fun, hop over and visit here.
And speaking of hop...  Have you seen the cutest little Rabbit scissors ever?  I got mine from Anita's Little Stitches!

On the stitching front this week, I finished a little piece by The StitcherHood, Stitcher’s Sampler.  Once again, using one of my favorties for this type design, DMC 115.  I’ve also been stitching an ornament, but will show you later.

Did you get to enjoy those few days of cool weather last week?  Wasn’t it wonderful to have early spring weather in these days that feel so much like summer?  Whatever your weather this week, I hope you’re wrapping up a wonderful weekend, enjoying a lot of whatever it is you decide to do!
Thank you for coming by for a visit and for sharing your kind words with me!  I love hearing that you’ve stopped by!

May ?

A couple of words about my last post, My first meme …  Yes, it was amazing that I could recognize her – but I credit that mostly to my great desire to see her.  It was a wonderful program, but as I told someone else, there were four teachers in the program, and I do recall the names and a couple of things the others taught me, but none like Mrs. Campbell.
On one of my yahoo groups, Patti, the Rocky Mountain Stitcher, recently finished the Bremen Town Musicians.  It reminded me of a set of Scherenschnitte (German scissor snipping) pieces I did years ago, but still hang in my dining room.  Looking at the photo makes me realize that some nicer framing would do wonders for these!   And wouldn’t that lovely cross stitched piece look lovely hanging with them?  Maybe …  I believe it’s buried deep in my stash someplace.
Last week I finished stitching my OakHaven Designs monthly SAL for April.  I used as close to diamond colored thread for the hearts, Sulky Holoshimmer.
I’ve also been stitching the NeedleMania 2 SAL with The Sampler Life group.  Part five is now finished.
As much as I say and plan to quit stash gathering, I’ve gotten a bit more…  Cricket Collection, Soft Boiled.  Won’t these be cute with that 2010 Carrot? And from Carol the Linen Stitcher, who is downsizing,  a BlackBird Designs The Blackbird Sampler.
Thanks for stopping by.  I'd love to hear your comments!  Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and a joy filled Mother's Day!
