Second Finish

Hey, Friends!
As I had hoped, I finished my second 2012 project yesterday, and so without further ado:

It’s The Good Huswife’s  Sarah Seifer 1826.  She’s stitched on 36ct R-R Gold Finch, using the recommended DMC fibers with these exceptions: The alphabet is 924, the Name is 3371, and the birth date is 3011.
This was such a fun project – I loved every stitch, but when I took the photo, realized the bottom birds were missing, and the upper bird beaks...  Now the stitching is finished!  The "J" is missing on purpose.  I've read that they did this so that they didn't appear to be 'perfect.'  No worries about that in my stitching!

I’m grateful for hot Earl Gray and shortbread!

Thank y’all for each and every comment you send along!
PeaceëLoveëJoy
and Happy Stitching

  1. It is looking great, and I bet it looks better now! Isn't it funny how you don't see something until you photograph it? Enjoy you day off and your Earl Gray in a fun mug!

  5. Woohoo! Congratulations on the finish! I love Sarah Seifer! It looks great on that linen.

I had to google this to make sure that I was correct before I said it. I typed in "why is the letter J not in earlier alphabets" and the suggestion for "why is..." came up with a bunch of things, including the question "why is my poop green". ROFLOL OH MY GOSH!!! Yeah--I swear I never typed that into the search engine. LOL Anyhoo! I was right in my guessing, which is that the letters J & U weren't used in earlier samplers because they weren't in the alphabet until more recent centuries. You can read about it here:

Interesting!! I always get thrown by the funky s that they used in earlier writing & samplers.

  8. Oh, I love it, Charlene!! Isn't it funny how our mistakes never seem to appear until we take our photographs? Better then than after they're framed, right?

  9. You are having a great start to 2012, its wonderful when your needle flies.

Funny you should post today about the J being missing as I was thinking about this on And They Sinned as well. I know my family will think that I have left it off by mistake.

  12. Your piece is beautiful Charlene. I just love those samplers. I am glad you were able to be off on Martin Luther King and and hopefully had many hours of stitching.

  13. Nice finish, but that missing J would drive me nuts. I love shortbread too, especially when it is still warm from the oven. Have you tried Redbush (Roibois) tea, that is what I ddrink all the time at home.
