WIP - Works in Progress

In 2002 I started Mother’s Prayer Quilt by Janlynn. It is composed of 16 quilt blocks representing a quality that one teaches and desires for her child. Still a design that I love (may change the wording a little), when I pulled it out 14 blocks were complete, one was started, and one not started.

Why did it go into the unfinished stash box? After three and a half rows of blocks were completed, I discovered that the lower section was one stitch off from the top section. I was so disgusted that it wasn’t perfect I put it away. I’m SO glad I didn’t trash it because now I realize that when it complete, it probably won’t be obvious at all.

I took the photos without my glasses, and when sizing them realized that one of the before shots was the back – and the only reason I noticed was the reverse image. I was taught that the back should be as neat and precise as the front. I don’t subscribe to that theory 100 percent anymore or I’d never get anything done, but do try not to let it get messy.

And so, for my initial intent, this is the WIP I will complete first.

Sing-a-Long

Someone sent this to me today, and though not all apply, I can relate. Today I am 55.

To commemorate her birthday, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, when the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, when the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Bride's Tree Ornaments - Finished

Today I want to share with you the finished results of the ornaments I've stitched this year as a member of the Bride's Tree SAL group. You can click this to see my postings as the year went along.

This isn't be the best way to display the set, but it does show them as a group. I did buy the tree for them, but they're larger than I anticipated, so the tree will come in handy for other ornaments. My plan is for these to go into my son's "hope chest" to give to his wife on their first Christmas some day in the future.

Click on the images to see a little better. This one shows the tiny tatted ring I made for each as a hanger. They will be best with an actual hanger, which I will include, but for now they're hung by the thread.

Next Full Moon

A Wonderful Sight

December 12 — The Full Cold MoonSky watchers will be dazzled by an exceptionally high, bright, and large Moon. In fact, this Moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons this year. Why? The Moon is both in its full phase and at a point in its orbit that is nearest Earth, called its perigee. When these events occur together, the Moon is closer to Earth than usual. The effect? The Full Cold Moon will appear especially large near the horizon as the Sun sets. The Moon is also high at this time of year; when it's overhead (near midnight), it will light up the landscape. Take a magical stroll and see your world at night. You won't need a flashlight!
