I saw on a blog the other day a comment about adding their 'signature' to a sampler that was originally created by someone else - Mary Wigham, I believe. It brought to mind the question: Do you 'sign' or initial your work? Why or why not?
I've been stitching on the Summer Gateway this week, and making pretty good progress.
Thanks for stopping by ~ y'all come back soon!
That's an interesting question, Charlene. I've put labels on quilts but only signed an embroidery once when I'd created the stitches. Hard to explain but it was a stitched version of a friend's poster.... I love your newest project, especially the beaded bird!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlene, I generally sign only my own original designs or if something is a special gift. Good question. I hope you are doing well by the way! Stop over to My Nifty Needle, I just put a free Quaker Christmas pattern up called "Season of Light". Talk to ya soon girl!

I do sign my name. In the case of Mary Wigham, I will probably sign it at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteI also like to include information about the piece (and me), and a pattern in case someone else may want to stitch it later (Not on the actual piece - if framed than behaind the piece).
I do at least put my initials and the date. On a big sampler (from Eileen Bennett) I put my maiden and married name.
ReplyDeleteI try to sign, in some fashion, unless it's so noticeable in the piece that it takes away from it.
ReplyDeleteI always "sign" my stitched piece with my initials and the year. This way whoever sees it will know who and when it was stitched.
ReplyDeleteI always sign mine with at least my initials and the entire year (ex: VP 2009) :)
ReplyDeleteHi Charlene (and pixie!) How are you today? By the way the puppy looks so cute in the picture. I've started a second blog just for Victorian Houses to build our own Villages. Stop by and tell me what you think.
ReplyDeleteCya! I'm off to take care of the grandbaby.

Very Pretty! You are making great progress. It looks peaceful there in your garden by the bird bath.

I have been stitching for 28 years now and I sign everything I do with my first name spelled out and the year it was finished.
ReplyDeleteI usually sign my name in the same color as the background fabric, at the bottom. Sometimes I add a heart or a half moon, over one, which happens to be on my name crest.
I do this because I made it, but most importantly, you won't remember in years to come when you did it.
God Bless ~
