Making a little slow progress on the birdhouse gardens... from where started this time.

Yesterday, Monday we were off work in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. I wished so many times that it had been today, Tuesday, so that I could see the Inauguration of President Obama.
Today is a Snow Day here in South Carolina. I'm sure those of you under many feet of freezing snow won't be amused, but it's a real treat here. Yes, just slightly more than a dusting causes a stand still here.
But it's SO pretty falling...
My family has always been one that is superstitious to 'old wives tales.' One of the many I've always heard is that "if a red bird comes close to the house, it means snow is coming". Well, I've seen more cardinals this year than any I can remember. Was I looking for them, hoping for snow? Another is "if you hear thunder in the winter, in some number of days it will snow". Was it two or three weeks ago that we had a thunder storm? Is there really something to those old tales?
I went looking for the next UFO to finish last night, and see what I found? It's been in this unfinished state for several years. It's called Birdhouse Garden, "from gifted watercolorist Ann Craig" by Sunset.

It was on a wooden scroll frame, a corner of which you can see in the photo below, and after I had done just a few stitches my sholder and neck were beginning to ache. I've taken it off the scroll and put a hoop around the area I'll start with. I'm sure that will make a big difference. Too bad because even afer years, the fabric is still wrinkle free and clean. After hooping it, that won't be the case, but at least my body won't be tortured!!
I've finished stitching my first WIP from 2002 in 2009 -- the Mother's Prayer Quilt by Janlynn. It has taken all these years, but it is a nice piece.
Now to decide what to do with it... It's about 13 x 17 and would make a great pillow. I do think he would enjoy that more than a framed piece. What do you think? Maybe I'll ask him.

Finished !I want to ponder a little longer on my goals for 2009, but am currently working on the Mother's Prayer Quilt piece.
Here's the summary of my 2008 goals - not complete, but not too bad, either! If you click on it, it should give you a legible image. I realize now that I should have just repeated them in the finished section. I'll know for 2009 (if I remember).

One of the goals for my time off work was to finish a book. Ceremony in Death by J.D. Robb is the one!
"With her husband, Roarke, watching her every move, Eve is drawn into the most dangerous case of her career. Every step she takes makes her question her own beliefs of right and wrong—and brings her closer to a confrontation with humanity's most seductive form of evil."
I've really enjoyed the books I've read in this series - so much that I immediately started another - Portrait in Death.
