I saw a basket by Laurie on the needle-tat group, and had to try it. Love the way it turned out, and will use them on my Crazy Quilts with flowers overflowing. The pink is made with #12 Finca pearl, and the white is #30 DMC Cebelia as is the tan that I dyed / stained with coffee.

New Old Threads
While I was searching on Etsy.com, I found these threads. They were from someones mother and aunt, so they're older, are mostly size 70, and they are different colors than I've seen in the stores. Notice the little holder in the left of the pic. The thread inside was mine, but just wanted to see if it would fit. You probably know that it's to hold the thread while in use so it won't tangle or get dirty. I had never seen one made specifically for that purpose. The ones in the store are primarily for knitting thread, big, bulky, and rather expensive! I love this tiny one!

Critters
I've been working on Jane Eborall's lobster for days, but have finally finished one that is going to pass. It's a fairly big project for me, but it was really fun since I have an idea for what I'll use it. It is done in size 20 Rubi thread.

After that was finished, I did one of Martha Ess' frogs. He was pretty quick and fun to do! Used size 12 Finca pearl thread.

Both these great women of tatting will be at Tat Days in September!

Split Ring
It's not so easy to take a photo with one hand, but I've tried to demonstrate closing a split ring for Laurie from the needle_tat group to see.
After you've loaded on all your stitches for the ring, start pulling the core thread through while holding the stitches, just as if you were making a regular ring.
Put the needle through the loop that is coming up under your left hand, from back to front (or right to left) and continue pulling until the ring is closed.
Viola - a split ring.
